Les sentiers de randonnées – Forêt de Castillon
La forêt domaniale de Castillon occupe la partie nord de la ville et représente un espace naturel exceptionnel, riche en flore méditerranéenne, peuplé de nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux et flanqué de quatre étangs. Aménagé de parkings, équipé de panneaux informatifs et d’aires de détente, ce domaine forestier de 288 ha permet la pratique d’activités diverses: randonnée ou course pédestre, parcours de santé, découverte du patrimoine naturel et historique, chasse, équitation, VTT… et également pique-nique en famille. Soucieux de prévenir les incendies et d’assurer un accueil agréable au public, l’ONF entreprend régulièrement des actions de reboisement et d’éclaircissement qui favorisent la biodiversité, et mettent particulièrement en valeur les richesses biologiques, paysagères et patrimoniales de la forêt tout en respectant son identité.
« Sentier de découverte du Pourra » (balisage: flamand rose) Ce sentier permet de partir à la recherche d’une zone riche tant sur le plan naturel que patrimonial à travers une série de panneaux thématiques: la flore locale, l’étang et les oiseaux qui le peuplent, le problème des incendies et la régénération de la végétation, les différents types de roches et les traces des activités humaines passées (l’extraction de la pierre, l’agriculture, la gestion de l’eau). Parcours d’1.6 km, surplombant une partie de l’étang du Pourra, accessible aux individuels en visite libre. Possibilité d’organiser des visites guidées pour les groupes sur réservation auprès de l’Office de Tourisme.
« Sentier pour personnes à mobilité réduite » Longeant le chemin rural sur 2 km, ce sentier est accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite, aux poussettes, vélos pour enfants. Il offre une vue dégagée sur l’étang du Pourra et le village des St Mitre les Remparts et bénéficie de parkings et fontaines à proximité.
« Sentier du canal » (balisage: écureuil) A partir du centre hippique, ce sentier permet de faire une boucle de 3.6 km, autour du plateau de Castillon. Il chemine en partie le long du petit canal qui alimentait autrefois Martigues en eau (VTT autorisé).
« Sentier des oiseaux » (balisage: flamand rose) Sentier de 5.2 km qui permet de s’approcher au plus près des oiseaux de l’étang du Pourra et d’observer des hérons cendrés, colverts, foulques, flamants roses, tadornes… (VTT autorisé).

Attention! En été l’accès à la forêt est règlementé par arrêté préfectoral du 1er juin au 30 septembre, en fonction des conditions météo.

Hiking trails – Forest of Castillon
The forest of Castillon occupies the northern part of the city and represents an exceptional natural area, rich in Mediterranean flora, populated by many species of birds and flanked by four ponds. With arranged car park, equipped with information boards and rest areas, this forest estate of 288 acres allows the practice of various activities: hiking or running, fitness trail, discovery of the natural and historical heritage, hunting, horseback riding, VTT … and also family picnic. In order to prevent fires and to provide a pleasant welcome to the public, the ONF regularly undertakes reforestation and thinning action which promote biodiversity and place particular value on the biological riches, landscape and heritage of the forest while respecting its identity.
« Pourra discovery trail » (markup: Flamingo) This trail allows you to search for an area rich in natural heritage through a series of thematic panels: the local flora, pond and birds that inhabit in it, the threat of fire and regeneration of vegetation, different types of rocks and traces of past human activities (extraction of stone, agriculture, water management). Route of 1.6 km, overlooking part of the pond of Pourra, accessible to unassisted individual visit. Possibility to organize guided tour for groups by reservation at the Tourist Office.
« Path for person with reduced mobility » Along the country road of 2 km, this path is accessible to people with reduced mobility, strollers, children’s bicycles. It boasts a clear view of the pond of Pourra and the village of St. Mitre les Remparts while offering water fountain and car parking space nearby.
« Canal trail » (markup: Squirrel) From the riding center, this path allows a loop of 3.6 km around Castillon. It travels partly along a small canal which supplied water once to Martigues (VTT authorized).
« Bird trail » (markup: Pink flamingo) 5.2 km trail which allows to approach closer to the birds on the pond of Pourra and observe herons, mallards, coots, pink flamingos, ducks … (VTT authorized).
